ABC is an interactive exhibition piece that reflects our insights, experience and the knowledge learned from craftsmen during our internship in Murat Pantograf, Şişhane. Based on the stories passed from old generations to new, we learned a lot about the neighborhood, crafts’ history and many other anecdotes. One of them was how alphanumeric steel stamps that were used and carved out of steel by craftsman. Since these hand made stamps are no longer in frequent use, we wanted people to exhibit this soon to be forgotten technique. We welcomed participants to inscribe anything they want on a brass card that they can keep to themselves. As they personalize their own brass card, each hammered stamp also leave mark on the workbench like a carbon copy and create cumulative marks.
